Sultan is a brand new and fabulous "cake-yarn" made from 100% soft cotton. This yarn is characterized by 4 thin cotton threads that are not twinned together. Hence, it is perfect for shawls, afghans, and scarves, where the long color changes will come out perfectly.

Cotton Kings Sultan is available in many magnificent colour combinations and is presented in big luscious 200-gram balls with a meterage of approximately 800 metres. Shades 6-10 are the popular tone-on-tone color changes and they change one thread at a time. Where the hue changes, you will see a tiny knot in one of the 4 twined strands that the yarn consists of. You can choose to ignore it which many crafters choose, or you can pull out a tiny bit of the yarn (the entire twined strand) to weave in the end at the back of your work. This spreads out the long color changes over the 800 meters of thread with a dazzling result, crocheted or knitted alike. The cakes have an unusually pretty color progression, where the nuances change from light to dark - or the other way around depending on whether you start with the inside or the outside thread.

Use the Sultan cakes for shawls and summery scarves, allowing the change in nuances to shine, in one long handmade creation. A pretty boléro, a summer dress, or a summer top, which will give you a delicate dip dye effect, could also be just the ticket for both adults and children.

It takes about one cake to make one shawl or scarf.
Pro tip: Before you start working on the Sultan cake, run all 4 treads through a small bead to help the threads stay together throughout the project.

Note that we have done our utmost to match Sultan and Sultan Solid. Still, there might be very slight differences.

I made a shawl using colour 53, Amazonite. It came out beautifully, with excellent stitch definition. I'm now making a lap blanket using colour 01, Ocean Jasper. The colour changes in this yarn are so subtle, they give a stunning end result. I would say though, having experienced cake collapse when using Sultan Shadow - it was the first time I had used a 4 ply yarn - I now roll the cake into a ball when I want to start with the centre colour. That being said, this is now my favourite yarn and I'll definitely be buying more.

I made The Tendril Shawl (pattern on Ravelry) using the colourway Apetite using the 4 ply cotton. It is the first time I have used it and it was lovely to work with. The handy tab for an easy centre pull start was a nice way to start. I wish all yarns could start like this! The yarn was nice to work with and was smooth, soft and made a nice drape shawl. I have several more cakes left plus 4 in another colourway and I look forward to using it again.

Made a waistcoat for a work colleague using Sultan (32) Carnelian she was made up with it really happy ! Now I'm making her a shawl with the same Sultan Carnelian . I have more colleagues at work asking me to also make them shawls and waistcoats. I am utterly happy and so are they. What a gorgeous yarn to work with and what amazing colours ! And the customer service also 5 star. Keep up the good work all of you 🥰

Sultan is just so beautiful! The long colour changes are divine, the cake feels like it goes on forever! Such a huge amount of great quality cotton! I wish I could afford to buy all the colours.
These are fantastic for making mandalas, shawls, scarfs, ponchos, beach dresses \ cover ups, crop \ bra tops or lightweight pullovers for the summer evenings. So very versatile

Pink Sapphire (34) - This was my first time working with an untwisted yarn so used a bead to run the four strands through. It didn’t take long to get used too. I absolutely loved the long, subtle colour changes and it totally blew my husband’s mind how I managed to keep it symmetrical! 😂. I shall be using plenty more of this gorgeous yarn 🧶 ❤️
