1. How would you describe your crochet universe?
“I started my crochet journey 11 years ago and I haven’t stopped having fun since then! My crochet universe is vast, incorporating a wide range of projects. My work is not limited to amigurumi, for which I’m most known for.
I enjoy challenging myself with various projects such as cushions, blankets, and garments. The same goes for the materials I use. I love experimenting with different types of yarn, whether it be cotton or wool, bulky or fingering yarn. Learning never stops – it's like a never-ending adventure!”
2. What is your favorite crochet stitch at the moment?
"I find joy in experimenting with something new every day. Exploring and learning different stitches and techniques is what I love. It's this excitement of continuous discovery that keeps my creative journey so exciting!"
3. How did you design the ‘Playtime’ collection from initial concept to final pieces?
"For the 'Playtime' mini collection, I drew inspiration from childhood memories – toys, and playful elements that I used to love as a kid. I started with sketches and notes on ideas for the patterns, focusing on the shapes, colors, and textures I wanted to bring into the project. Then, with a clear vision of the desired outcome, I carefully went on to choose the right yarns and colors for each design."
4. Which design in this collection are you most proud of?
"I'm especially proud of the sensory cube. I enjoyed working various stitches to create a visually and sensory engaging experience in the project."
5. How do you believe your designs will inspire creativity and learning in children?"
"All three designs aim to enhance a child's fine motor skills, such as grasping, fitting, and picking up pieces. The puzzles and stacking toys are specifically designed to encourage critical thinking and develop problem-solving skills. Meanwhile, the sensory cube engages multiple senses, including touch and sight. The diverse textures and colors incorporated into the cube provide a rich sensory experience.”
6. Could you share more details about the ‘Playtime’ collection patterns?
Puzzles
"As a kid, I used to love playing with puzzles. The ones I've designed are simple, four-piece puzzles, making them suitable for even the youngest kids. I chose themes like animals, nature, and vehicles, and used the super fine yarn Friends Cotton 8/4 to ensure each piece remains small, perfect for little hands.”
Sensory Cube
"Each side of the cube offers a different texture and color, stimulating a child's sense of touch and sight. I used a variety of crochet stitches, including back loop, basketweave, fan, waffle, bobble, and loop to create diverse textures. The use of Friends Cotton 8/4, a bright-colored yarn, adds to its appeal."
Space Shuttle Stacking Toy
"This stacking toy is designed to enhance a child's fine motor skills. It's soft, colorful, and made with Honey Bunny, a bulky chenille yarn, resulting in a final product that's silky and smooth to touch, making it perfect and super safe even for the youngest kids."
7. What are your best tips for crafting educational crochet designs?
"To design playful and educational crochet patterns, start by identifying the educational goals you want to achieve. Incorporate vibrant colors and varied shapes, remember to create storytelling elements, and always consider the age and skill levels of the kids."
8. And finally, what are your top 3 tips?
“1 – Start with simple patterns to build a strong foundation. As you gain confidence and familiarity with basic stitches, gradually take on more complex patterns.
2 – Learn from mistakes and consider them valuable learning opportunities and an essential part of improving your skills.
3 – Have fun and be patient with yourself!”
