Dreaming of learning to knit but haven't had the guts to dive in yet? Then you've got to read this! 🫶 (Or know someone who does? Just send this blog post their way! 🏹)

Learning to knit can feel overwhelming, but luckily, help is here. Let us introduce you to easy as knit, a popular knitting universe created by two friends, Elisabeth and Christine! 🧶✨

They believe learning to knit should be easy—even if you've never held a knitting needle before or don't know anyone who can show you the stitches. That's why they've developed beginner knitting patterns that guide you safely through your first projects. 🤩 If you ask us, it's a genius way to learn how to knit!

All their patterns are designed with a focus on making it both fun and manageable to learn to knit—whether you're a newbie or want to challenge yourself with more advanced techniques.

And their patterns are insanely gorgeous too! 😍

Does that sound like your cup of tea? In this blog post, you can read more about the beginner-friendly patterns from easy as knit, get Elisabeth and Christine's top tips for beginners, and check out a selection of their lovely knitting patterns. 😉

Knitting patterns that guide you from the very first stitch

asy as knit guides you safely through their knitting patterns from start to finish—whether it's your first, second, or tenth. Elisabeth and Christine put great value on writing the patterns in language everyone can understand. In other words, they've ditched all those cryptic abbreviations and technical terms that make you want to pull your hair out in the middle of a hat or sweater.

“We believe it's easier to understand a knitting pattern if we write the instructions exactly as we would explain them to someone face to face,” they explain.

“Plus, we have detailed video guides that take you by the hand step by step. In the videos, we focus on the exact pattern you've chosen, so you don't have to watch a technique video for a hat when you're knitting a slipover.”

Dive into the 'Ultra Easy' patterns

So which pattern should you start off with? Elisabeth and Christine recommend their 'Ultra Easy' category, specially created for brand-new knitters.

“This category of patterns is designed especially for those who've never knitted before or are at the beginning of their knitting journey—and you can choose from everything from hats and slipovers to sweaters, tops, and accessories. Many have had great success learning to knit by starting with our Ultra Easy Bag or Ultra Easy Bag - Boxy Edition.”

If you're up for a slightly bigger project, they recommend you go for the Ultra Easy Slipover.

3 tips for beginners

If you're still feeling a bit unsure, Elisabeth and Christine are here with their top 3 tips.

The first tip is to remember to make a gauge swatch:

“It might seem a bit dull, but it's incredibly important! Even though it can be tempting to skip the swatch and jump straight into your project, you'll save yourself many mistakes and wasted time by doing it from the start.”

Tip number two is about taking good care of your finished knit when washing it:

“Be gentle when washing knits—and avoid the dryer. If you're not used to washing knits, you should know they're very delicate. It's always a bummer when something you've spent many hours on gets ruined in the wash.”

The third tip is a loving reminder to dial down your ambitions just a tad:

“Perfection isn't the goal—as a beginner, you make mistakes, and most small errors, like an extra centimetre in length or a single extra stitch, rarely matter in the grand scheme of things. Remember to enjoy the process and not focus so much on the perfect result!”
