A GOTS-certified and beautiful "Shetland type" wool for all you yarn lovers out there who love doing colorwork and making wooly sweaters, jackets, throws, and accessories. The yarn is called a “Shetland Type” and not Shetland wool because this wool does not come from the Shetland Islands since there are no GOTS-certified farms to be found there. However, our organic Shetland type wool looks exactly like conventional Shetland wool, has the same properties, and is even softer than the original.
The individual colors have many different shades in them that give the finished work a stunning and interesting look. Bio Shetland is perfect for both children and adults, lace knitting, and fair isle. You can also use Bio Shetland on your knitting machine or loom.
Wash your finished projects on a wool program. However, it’s a good idea to test whether your machine’s wool program is gentle enough by washing your swatch first - after measuring it first, of course! The raw wool comes from farms in South America, where they do not use mulesing. The wool is spun and dyed in Turkey.

I have this in both mustard and orange. As a “Shetland type” wool it’s definitely harsher than other wools, but it has a robust sturdiness that I like. It can still be a bit itchy, but not to the extent of Icelandic Lopi wool.
