Our current Baby Merino XL series will unfortunately be discontinued. But please do not despair: A new and improved series is on its way and will land in the shop sometime during 2021.
We are proud to present our silky soft, flexible merino yarn, designed especially for the world’s best yarny customers.
This is a soft and delicious wool, nice and cosy and absolutely itch free, which many of us appreciate.
If you are knitting or crocheting for babies/ children, you can rest assured that the end result will be super soft when you use our Baby Merino, which is also very easy to care for since it is machine washable.
Hobbii Baby Merino XL is a cable spun yarn, which creates and incredibly strong thread with a wonderful elasticity. You will find that the yarn pulls a little in on itself and is very flexible while you work it. It will straighten out more when you block it and while it will keep its suppleness, you should factor in that the yarn will stretch slightly. For this is reason, it is important that you do not knit too loosely. If you have a tendency to knit loosely, you may need to go down half a needle size. As always, we recommend that you start out with a swatch, so you will know your gauge after blocking - it can save you from regrets later on!
Baby Merino is well suited for pullovers, cardigans, hats, and other accessories - even baby blankets, that need to be warm and can benefit from having a little weight to them. Structured knitting with knit/purl patterns or cable knitting will show up beautifully in Baby Merino, and more intricate patterns will look very striking, almost sculpted in this yarn.
Want the same yarn, only lighter? Check out our popular and soft Baby Merino, which you will find right here. We have made identical shades for these two “sister-yarns” making it easy for you to match up your projects, regardless if you knit with the fingering or the DK version.

Beautiful wool. this wool is a dream to knit with, so silky soft but does not knit up floppy like some soft yarns. It gives good definition to the stitch pattern I am using. I found it did tend to split when I first started but I just pay more attention to my knitting and it's not a problem. would definitely recommend it
I've never purchased anything from Hobbii before but I found the service amazing!! I emailed numerous questions about colours which were all answered promptly and patiently! The yarn arrived quickly and it's very soft. :-)
Lovely soft wool, knits up great. Like double knitting but tension needs adjusting so I used a slightly smaller needle. Great for baby knits
This is a lovely wool to knit with, defines the pattern well. i knitted a baby jacket that was super soft when finished
Lovely to work with. Beautifully soft and a lovely finish. Knitted a baby coat and a bunting bag.
